Traineeships for career progression

  • We have lots of new people coming into the profession. It's much harder to make that leap from a Library Assistant role to more senior positions, or for colleagues with valuable experience outside of libraries to transition into librarianship.

Why not have traineeships and/or placements at different levels, e.g. into a first professional post, into managing a small library, into strategic roles, giving support and development at a higher level? This would give more structured routes into the profession.
