Many CILIP members are wary about volunteering in libraries in case they replace paid jobs yet they are keen to support libraries and might want to continue to do so in retirement. CILIP could offer a database of accredited volunteering opportunities where the library has outlined the role appropriately and evidenced how it has not been created by the removal of paid posts. This could include in special and charity libraries, or children's schemes in public libraries or even extended to reading with children in schools.
Implementation:
A searchable online database, possibly in conjunction with the Volunteer Centres' database.
CILIP's role:
Accreditation and reassurance.
